Artist statement

This series is my recoloring of Thích Quảng Đức's self-immolation on June 11, 1963 in Saigon, S. Vietnam photographed by Malcolm Wilde Browne. Using the photograph for reference, I painted my version in watercolor and black sharpie, as seen in the first photograph, and then overlayed my painting on the original photograph using different alpha channels to blend the images together.
